Position Overview

As an Urban Designer, you will play a crucial role in leading and delivering a portfolio of significant masterplanning projects. You will contribute to the practice's commitment to improving the built environment and the lives of those their work touches. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate across research, urban design, interior design, and architecture, making a meaningful impact on nationally significant projects.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a range of exciting and high-profile masterplanning projects in the UK

  • Develop ambitious, long-term strategies for place-making, from precise urban insertions to designs for new settlements at nationally significant scales

  • Collaborate with clients, consultants, and internal teams to deliver thoughtful, considered, and enduring design solutions

  • Contribute to the practice's integrated approach, working across urban design, architecture, interior design, and design research

  • Produce high-quality design documentation, including design codes and formal documentation for planning

  • Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment


Requirements

  • Post-graduate qualification in urban design (MA or equivalent, architectural background preferred)

  • Minimum of five years' UK-based post-qualification experience in medium to large-scale masterplanning projects

  • Excellent design ability, technical knowledge, and understanding of UK legislative and planning policy context

  • Strong free-hand drawing ability, excellent presentation and graphics skills

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD and/or Revit, SketchUp and/or Rhino

  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), planning & organisational skills, commercial awareness, maturity, responsibility, and reliability

  • Ability to liaise confidently with clients and consultants, work autonomously and as part of a team

  • Proactive and willing to continuously upskill and stay updated with industry standards, software, and processes

  • Proven record of managing project teams
