Company Overview
This is a small, chartered architectural practice founded by two alumni of a leading London studio. The practice has built an impressive portfolio far larger than its headcount suggests, specialising in high-end residential design and heritage-led architecture within conservation areas and Grade-listed buildings.
Their work combines rigorous academic approach with deeply human design thinking. The practice deliberately maintains a lean team of three, soon to be four, which sharpens their focus rather than limiting their scope. They consistently secure projects valued at £20 million and above, working across sensitive restoration, refurbishment and new-build hybrid schemes that showcase elegant solutions within historic contexts.
Position Overview
As a Part II Architectural Assistant, you'll contribute across all project stages—from concept through to completion—on a diverse portfolio of residential schemes and heritage projects. You'll work alongside senior architects on planning and construction drawings, design detailing, and both architectural and interior design aspects. Your involvement will span site visits, client meetings and collaborative design development. You'll gain hands-on experience on several major schemes simultaneously, building confidence as a well-rounded project leader whilst receiving direct mentorship and support from the practice founders.
Responsibilities
Contribute to design development and detailed drawings across all project stages from concept to completion
Prepare planning and construction drawings under guidance of senior architects
Assist in designing and detailing high-end residential and heritage-led projects
Collaborate on architectural and interior design aspects of schemes
Participate in site visits and attend client meetings
Support the practice across a range of project types and scales
Requirements
Part II architectural qualification (or equivalent stage of professional development)
Experience working on high-quality residential projects
Ideally, experience with existing buildings and listed building conservation
Demonstrable passion for architecture and design excellence
Articulate communicator, motivated and productive in your approach
Ability to work collaboratively within a small, supportive team
Benefits
Hands-on involvement across all project stages from concept to completion
Exposure to exceptional residential projects including heritage and new-build hybrid schemes
Opportunity to shape both architectural and interior design outcomes
Clear pathway to develop into a confident, well-rounded project leader
Discretionary annual bonus linked to studio success
Flexible working: Monday and Friday work from home, collaborative studio mid-week
9am–6pm working hours with no overtime expectation
Regular team outings to projects, exhibitions and shared meals
Alongside these benefits, you'll join a practice that actively rejects hierarchical structures in favour of an open, supportive environment genuinely invested in their team's growth. You'll thrive in a setting where curiosity and passion for architecture are valued, with excellent mentorship and genuine opportunity to fast-track your development into a confident project leader.
